Getting started

How do I find a campsite?

Open the Map tab and pan to where you're heading. Color-coded pins show the legality of each spot:

• Green — verified legal dispersed camping (BLM, USFS, etc.)
• Amber — designated paid sites (fee required)
• Red — known closures or restrictions

Tap a pin to open the spot card. From there you can get directions (Apple Maps, Google, Waze) or start a verified stay.

What do the colored areas mean?

Open the Layers sheet (top-right icon) and toggle these on:

• Amber polygons — BLM land. Dispersed camping is legal almost anywhere on BLM for up to 14 days, 200ft from water.
• Brown lines — USFS motor vehicle roads (MVUM). You can disperse camp within ~300ft of a legal route.

BLM is mostly in the western US (Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, etc.). MVUM only exists on National Forest land.

Where do I find water, dump stations, and propane?

Open the Layers sheet and toggle on the resource layer. Boonpoint drops separate pins for drinking water (springs, taps, wells, potable fill), RV sanitary dump stations, and propane — pulled live from OpenStreetMap. Filter to just the type you need. They're their own pins, so a spring right next to a campsite stays its own water drop instead of hiding under the camp pin.

Verified stays

How does a verified stay work?

Boonpoint confirms you were actually at a spot before it logs the stay to your private trip journal. Being there is the proof — not how long you stayed. Here's the flow:

1. While you're at the spot, open its detail card and tap "Track a stay here."
2. Boonpoint checks you're within 200 meters and marks the stay confirmed. There's no minimum stay length.
3. Re-open Boonpoint anytime in the next 48 hours, from anywhere.
4. Boonpoint creates the trip journal entry and offers to let you review the spot.

The check happens entirely on your device — your location never leaves your phone.

Why no minimum? A camper who gets the 2 a.m. knock and has to move still stayed there, and that's exactly the report other boondockers need to see.

I stayed at a spot but it wasn't logged.

Check these in order:

• You tapped "Track a stay here" while you were at the spot — that tap is what proves you were there.
• You were within 200m of the spot when you tapped it.
• It's been less than 48 hours since you tapped it. After that the pending stay expires.
• You granted Boonpoint "Allow Once" or "While Using" location permission. If you denied location, no verification is possible.

Trip Journal

How do I add to my trip journal?

Journal entries are auto-created when Boonpoint verifies an overnight stay. You don't add them manually. Once an entry exists, tap it to:

• Add up to 6 photos from your camera roll
• Enter the fuel cost for the trip
• Add companion names
• Refine the notes

Can I edit or delete an entry?

Yes — tap any entry to edit its photos, notes, fuel cost, and companions, or swipe to delete it. Your journal stays private to your device and your iCloud.

Can I export my journal?

Yes — the share icon at the top right of the Journal tab exports the entire journal as a PDF. One page per entry, with the first photo embedded.

What does Pro unlock?

• Unlimited spot views

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every new install gets the full app free for 7 days — no card required, and nothing auto-charges. After that, Boonpoint Pro keeps everything unlocked ($9.99/mo or $49.99/yr).

Monthly or yearly?

Both unlock the same features. The difference is billing:

• Monthly $9.99 — auto-renews monthly, cancel anytime.
• Yearly $49.99 — auto-renews yearly, ~58% off the monthly rate. Best for anyone camping more than 5 times a year.

How do I cancel?

Open Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Boonpoint → Cancel. Apple handles all billing.

How do I restore a purchase on a new device?

Open the Layers sheet → tap Upgrade → tap Restore purchases at the bottom of the paywall. Same Apple ID required.

Offline downloads

What gets saved when I download a region?

The list of spots you can currently see, plus their details (legality, amenities, coordinates). Map tiles themselves are not cached in V1 — if you're truly off-grid you'll see a gray map but the pins will be in the right places.

How do I delete a saved region?

Open the Layers sheet → Offline section → tap the red trash icon next to any saved region.

Privacy & safety

Where does my data live?

Everything is on your iPhone. Your trip journal and pending stays sync to your personal iCloud private database — a container only your Apple ID can read. Boonpoint employees can't see any of it.

Does Boonpoint track me in the background?

No. Boonpoint only reads your location while the app is open and you're using it. There is no background location tracking, and the app does not watch where you go. Your location is checked at the moment you tap "Track a stay here" — that's it.
